Eulogies Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has gone by that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the movie, remarking that he could not remember "a single day without joy".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a separate essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order issued a embargo on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the deaths, public personalities shared varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing controversial remarks that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his show, Rogan labeled the comments as "disappointing" and implied they showed a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an adviser should have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
